Oldest ground stone axe found in Australia

Researchers in Australia have discovered a fragment of a ground-edge axe dating to 35,000 BP – the oldest example of this technology yet found. The discovery was made in a rock shelter in south-western Arnhem Land.

Analysis of the stone suggests that the axe was made at least 40km from where it was found.
